Replied to Starting Auction Setup
That post is over a year old. I put this project to the side earlier this spring.
Notification that Jeff entered chat only goes out to users active in the past hour.
I don't want to mislead folks on the status of this site.
Priority
To be very clear, developing this site is in no way whatsoever, a priority at this time. I'm not pushing it and not promoting it.
The last time Showcattle made as much in a year as Livesockjudging.com made in the first two weeks of this year was in 2019. It is where my focus is and it is where my focus will remain.
This game is currently a way for me to change gears from time to time and learn C# .NET Core development.
Current Status
It's not even close to being whing reach of being ready to play. You pretty much can't do anything at all in the game.
Game Model
All I know is it won't be a feedlot game. There might now be payment for sending cattle to town at all.
Replied to Trait Scale
From the front page of the site...
Welcome to STEERJOCK DEVELOPMENT SITE
This is not just a new version of Showcattle.com with a new layout. It will be a completely different game.
It is not even remotely close to being done. Nothing here will remain long term. It's being built. Feel free to mess around all you want.
All on the new code base...
- "Mark All Read" now marks all notifications as read
- "Mark All Read" now fades the notification bell out
Replied to Shorthorns again
I'm not doing anything with that part of the site right now.
Made some big updates to the chat.
Setup in such a manner that it will allow chat room auctions.
All on the new codebase...
- Humanized view count
- Added title casing to forum topics on list
- Added automatic truncation to forum topics
- Humanized time ago for new posts
- Formating of icons on the topic lists
You can't really use the version of the site with the new code base but I'm going to post updates here...
- Integrataed .NET authenticaion/login/account creation
- Got a working chat setup with SignalR base that will allow chat while browsing site
- Started work on new forum.
You're going to see site ads for a while until I get it configured properly.
Replied to coins and space questions
The subscriptions are all 'fake' money with testing card numbers right now as well. That won't be the subscription model but you can 'upgrade' and it doesn't actually cost anything. Real card numbers won't even work, just the testing ones.
Replied to Quick question
Yes, it's a random chance from among all the possible options. It doesn't say it will contain all of sexes, breed, and ages it says "5 head of random cattle. All sexes, all breeds, all ages.".
I've added that I need to add a disclaimer to the page to the to-do list.
I started writing these sites with VBScript back in 2001, about the time that started going out of style.
Rather than being lazy and staying stuck to that programming language, I'm going to start over from scratch on this site and switch everything to C#.
All this really means it's another month or two added to development time.
Replied to Some quick questions
No, just me. Nobody is going to devote a team of developers to an online show cattle game.
The errors are simply pages that are not done.
Wild type and dun are already included, but none of the available source breeds have them in their original options.
Replied to Error Messages
If that's what you're looking for, I'd recommend trying to come back and check in a month or so.
Replied to Will there be a send cattle to market option
You are not a subscriber on this site; nobody is.
This is not Showcattle. That's literally at the top of the front page of the site.
Replied to Breeding
Current thought (everything is just an idea right now) is the timeline will be 2 real weeks = 1 game year. Each day would be a month with Sunday 'off'. In that type of setup, gestation would be 9 days.
Adding temporary traits to work with on breeding/shows until the full traits/genetic model can be done.
Registration
- Can register foundation cattle
- Now charges for registration
- Adds note to animal timeline

Traits will be based on a percentile scale of all cattle born in the past two months.
What is a 5/10 today, likely will not be a 5/10 in a few months because of genetic progress over time. Similar to how in real life, what was considered good ten years ago is not considered good now.
Started up development in my spare time again now that livestock judging season is taking a bit of a breather.

Replied to Red bull x Red Cow = Black calf?
Color genes on calves aren't working right now, only genetics that get passed down are horns. More accurately, only scurs since all of the cattle are Angus or Red Angus right now.
Setting up the full color database now. You'll likely login and find all of your cattle gone sometime later today or tomorrow so I can implement the actual color model.
Selling doesn't work at all, just placeholders for the design side of it..

Extension Gene Explanation...
https://vgl.ucdavis.edu/test/mc1r-cattle
- Cattle with ED/ED genotype will have a jet black base color and cannot produce red offspring. They will transmit this dominant black variant to all of their offspring.
- Cattle with ED/E+ genotype will have a jet black base color and are carriers of the wild type variant. They will transmit this wild type variant to 50% of their offspring. Matings between two wild type carriers result in a 25% chance of producing a calf with wild type base coloration.
- Cattle with ED/e genotype will have a jet black base color and are carriers of the recessive red variant. They will transmit this recessive red variant to 50% of their offspring. Matings between two recessive red carriers result in a 25% chance of producing a calf with recessive red base coloration.
- Cattle with E+/E+ genotype will have wild type base coloration (reddish brown to brownish black base coloration). They will transmit this wild type variant to all of their offspring.
- Cattle with E+/e genotype will have wild type base coloration (reddish brown to brownish black base coloration) and are carriers of the recessive red variant. They will transmit this recessive red variant to 50% of their offspring. Matings between two recessive red carriers result in a 25% chance of producing a calf with recessive red base coloration.
- Cattle with e/e genotype will have red base coloration. They will transmit this recessive red variant to all of their offspring. All calves produced from matings with other e/e genotype cattle will have recessive red base coloration.

Calves were born for the first time today.
The only genetics that are part of the game right now are horn genetics, but we have a full polled/scurred/African model.

Starting the development of semen collection today, keep track of the features it's going to include here.
Collection
- Amount collected drops exponentially with each collection unless there's a cool-down period
- Fertility impacts the amount produced
- Each straw of semen will be stored in an individual row (vs a quantity column on Showcattle)
- Sire
- Actual Sex
- Actual Quality
- Listed Sex
- Listed Grade
- Choose to collect conventional or sexed at collection but cannot be changed later
- Sexed semen will have 90% accuracy
- Semen can be 'officially' one sex on the label but actually the other sex due to that 10%
- Any complaints about "I put in bull semen but got a heifer" will be ignored and redirected to a help center page
- Semen can be 'officially' one sex on the label but actually the other sex due to that 10%
- Cannot sex semen already collected
- Sexed semen will have 90% accuracy
Sales
- Semen sale page
- Semen listed for sale on each bull
- Semen can be auctioned

Not a coincidence that development stopped completely when CDE season started.
Replied to Several Minor Updates
No, been focusing on the community side of things before we move to the cattle stuff.
Updated
- Added a natural mating icon for the cattle history list

Added
- Add credit card
- Delete credit card
- Update primary card
Started adding user skills to the game.
As you do things in the sim, your skill in certain actions will increase. Skills will also slowly decrease over time as well.
You'll also be able to 'contract' or work for other users who need certain services you have a high skill at.
Examples of skills...
Artificial Insemination
When you are doing it for the first few times, your conception rates will be pretty low, in the 50% range. As you do more your conception rates will get up to the 75% range.
Showmanship
It will be part of the game and you'll get better at it the more you do it.
The site is several months from launching. The community/social side is about 50% where I'd like it to be and the cattle side isn't even 5%.
Everything that is done with cattle can/will be erased from time to time.
However, if you update your user profile/icon, that will stick. We won't be erasing usernames although balances will be reset mulitple times.
