Beefmaster is a breed-up breed in SteerJock. There are no Gen 0 Beefmasters — you can't buy or generate a 100% founder animal. You build them through breeding. Here's how it works.

Two Ways to Get a Purebred Beefmaster

There are two paths to a Purebred Beefmaster certificate, and the game checks both.

Path 1 — The Foundation Ratio. If your animal lands on exactly ½ Brahman + ¼ Hereford + ¼ Shorthorn on paper, it registers as a Purebred Beefmaster. This represents the original Lasater foundation cattle. You reach it by crossing registered Brahman, Hereford, and Shorthorn until the paper percentages average out to that 50/25/25 split. Both parents must be registered (Brahman, Hereford, Shorthorn, or Beefmaster). It has to be exact — 50/25/25, not "close enough."

Path 2 — Grading Up. Once a Purebred Beefmaster exists, you can breed up by % Beefmaster on paper. Any animal at 87.5% or higher Beefmaster registers as a full Purebred — no ratio check, just the percentage. This is how most Beefmasters get made after the first one.

The Advancer Tier

In between sits the Beefmaster Advancer register. An animal qualifies if it's 50% to 87% Beefmaster on paper and has at least one registered Beefmaster parent. This is the grading ladder:

  • Purebred × any other registered breed → 50% Beefmaster → Advancer
  • Advancer (50%) × Purebred → 75% → still Advancer
  • Advancer (75%) × Purebred → 87.5% → graduates to Purebred
  • Purebred × Purebred → 100% → Purebred

Three generations of breeding an Advancer back onto purebreds walks you from 50% up to purebred.

Things to Know

  • No color or horn requirements. Beefmaster registers any color, polled or horned. Breed for performance, not appearance.
  • Advancer needs a registered Beefmaster parent. A 50% animal with no papered Beefmaster parent won't certify — the percentage alone isn't enough.
  • It's paper percent, not genetics. Everything keys off the parents' registration papers, not raw genetic makeup. An unregistered Brahman contributes 0% to the ratio. Register your foundation stock first.

Summary: Cross registered Brahman + Hereford + Shorthorn to hit exactly ½ + ¼ + ¼ for your first Purebred, then breed Advancers (50–87%) back onto purebreds until they cross 87.5% and graduate.
