Chianina is the most permissive registry in SteerJock — it registers crosses all the way down to 6.25% Chianina, far lower than any other breed. It has four tiers, including the Chiangus composite for Angus crosses. Here's how it works.
The Four Tiers
Fullblood Chianina. The top tier — 100% Chianina. You get this from a Gen 0 founder (100% Chianina) or by breeding two Fullblood parents together.
Purebred Chianina. 87.5% (7/8) or higher Chianina. Carries forward as 100% for breeding purposes.
Chiangus. The Angus composite: 6.25% to 87.4% Chianina with any Angus or Red Angus present, and both parents registered. If your animal has both Chianina and Angus blood on paper, it registers as Chiangus rather than the generic percentage tier.
Percentage Chianina. 6.25% or higher Chianina, with at least one registered Chianina (or Chiangus) parent. This is the famously low-floor tier — even a 1/16 Chianina animal can be papered.
How the Tiers Stack
The game checks them from purest down:
Fullblood → Purebred → Chiangus → Percentage Chianina
An animal slots into the highest tier it qualifies for. A 50% Chianina + 50% Angus animal becomes a Chiangus (the Angus composite wins), while a 50% Chianina + 50% Hereford animal becomes a Percentage Chianina (no Angus, so it falls to the generic tier).
Things to Know
The lowest floor in the game
Most breeds require 25% or more. Chianina goes all the way down to 6.25% (1/16). This is true to the real breed's reputation — "if a Chi walks past another animal, it becomes a percentage Chi."
Chiangus beats Percentage Chianina
When an animal could be either, it registers as Chiangus. The Angus composite is the more specific designation.
Percentages round to 1/16
Chianina uses the sixteenths grid (6.25% steps), which is what makes the low floor reachable.
It's paper percent, not genetics
Everything keys off the parents' registration papers, not raw genetic makeup. An animal that averages below 6.25% rounds down to zero and can't register. Register your foundation stock first.
Summary
Breed up toward 7/8 for Purebred, or 100% for Fullblood. Cross with Angus/Red Angus at 6.25%+ Chianina for a Chiangus. Any animal 6.25%+ Chianina with a registered parent can be a Percentage Chianina — the lowest bar in the game.
