Brahman is one of the simplest registries in SteerJock. There's a single Brahman registry — no percentage tiers, no grading ladder, no composite paths. An animal is either a registered Brahman or it isn't. Here's how it works.
Two Ways to Register
Path 1 — Gen 0 founder. A Generation 0 animal that's 100% Brahman registers directly. This is the pure foundation stock you start a Brahman line from.
Path 2 — Both parents registered. Any animal whose sire and dam are both registered Brahman can register as Brahman. That's the whole requirement — two papered Brahman parents.
If either parent isn't a registered Brahman, the animal can't be registered as Brahman.
Red Brahman
Brahman come in different colors, and red animals carry the Red Brahman descriptor on their certificate automatically. It's the same registry and the same rules — the color just changes the name on the paper. Gray and other colors register as standard Registered Brahman.
Things to Know
- No percentage tiers. Unlike the continental breeds, Brahman has no "purebred vs. percentage" split. You're either a registered Brahman or you're not.
- Brahman is a foundation breed. It's one of the building blocks for the American composite breeds. Registered Brahman are required to breed up to Brangus (3/8 Brahman), Santa Gertrudis (3/8 Brahman), and Beefmaster (1/2 Brahman). If you're planning to make any of those, register your Brahman foundation stock first.
- It's paper, not genetics. As with every registry, this keys off the parents' registration papers. Register your Gen 0 Brahman so their offspring — and any composites built from them — can certify.
Summary: Register a 100% Gen 0 Brahman, or breed two registered Brahman together. Red animals become Red Brahman automatically. Keep your Brahman papered if you plan to build Brangus, Santa Gertrudis, or Beefmaster down the line.
